When we were on our honeymoon in Peru, we met the nicest Israeli couple. We really "clicked" with them, and spent a few great days with them in Huaraz, Peru. They were travelling after the army, on their honeymoon through South and Central America. On their way back to Israel, they stayed with us for two weeks. We kept in touch with them pretty well until about four years ago, when time and distance got the better of the friendship. (They were living in Europe the past four years.)
When we found out that they moved back to Jerusalem a month ago, we were thrilled. Our friends! Our only ISRAELI friends! That we knew BEFORE Israel! Yea!!!!
Then, of course, second thoughts: what if we don't have much in common anymore? We really didn't know them that long? and so on...
But, Aaron made a good point: we aren't as much reconnecting with old friends, as making a new friendship with old friends.
They came over with their three children today and we all had a great time. It was absolutely wonderful: we ate, we laughed, we joked, we talked about the future, and our kids played together so very well (except with their newborn, of course.)
When they left, we were already making plans to see them again.
It was the loveliest of afternoons. And I'm so happy to make old, new friends.
